How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne
The Kindergarten Teacher works within the Children’s Services area of the Community Wellbeing branch. The Children's Services team delivers education and care to over 400 children each week. Education and care is delivered through the Council owned centres; Lady Huntingfield Early Learning and Family Services Centre and North Melbourne Children’s Centre. We currently are recruiting for our new Casual Talent Pool, which will be across both our Childcare Centres. Both services are open 7.30am to 6.00pm.
The Kindergarten Teacher also provides high quality education and care for children accessing the service. The Teacher in this position will be guided by the Educational Leader, and shares responsibility for ensuring that the program reflects current best practice, and meets the individual needs of each child participating in the program. Programs will be informed by ‘Belonging, Being and Becoming’ Early Years Learning Frameworks.
The Kindergarten Teacher will also deliver on the following;
- Lead and actively support the development, implementation and assessment of a play based emergent curriculum
- Maintain and ensure compliance of documentation required in accordance with City of Melbourne policy, agreed ways of working, regulatory and ethical requirements.
- This includes but is not limited to, the children’s and program records, summative assessment pieces, medication and incident records and all other required documentation.
- Prepare comprehensive transition to school statements for all four year old kindergarten children attending the service that meets all funding and legislative requirements
- Actively contribute to the Quality Improvement Plan and assessment of the National Quality Standards. Lead and implement identified improvement work within room and whole centre.

- Approved tertiary qualification to degree or post-graduate level Early Childhood Education, and previous experience working in an Early Childhood Services environment
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of the National Quality Framework, which includes the National Quality Standards, Early Years Learning Framework, Regulations and Kindergarten Funding Guidelines
- Highly developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Capability to work effectively and engage ethically, and respect the diversity and abilities of children and families
- Ability to liaise with, support and maintain a reciprocal relationship with the educational leader and management team
