Job description

About us
Ausco Modular is Australia's leading transportable hire and modular construction company with over 16 locations across Australia. We are an organisation that enjoys consistent and rapid growth, offering our employees secure employment, career progression and a safe work environment that encourages and brings out the best in our people.

Your new role:
We are thrilled to announce an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Category Manager to join our National Procurement Team. This strategic position, reporting directly to the National Supply Chain Manager, is focused on managing the national Subcontract Labour category, crucial for delivering our projects safely, on time and within budget. In this role, you will lead initiatives to optimise subcontractor engagements, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards, and driving operational value through best practice procurement strategies.
The Category Manager plays a pivotal role in shaping the Subcontract Labour category's future, focusing on enhancing procurement practices and value delivery. Responsibilities encompass refining procurement processes to maximise efficiency and value from subcontractor engagements and exploring innovative strategies to ensure value for money and service quality. The role also involves developing and fostering collaboration with stakeholders and subcontractors for better project alignment and operational efficiency, ensuring project deliverables are achieved safely and effectively. Additionally, efforts to optimise service offerings through detailed analysis and strategic sourcing will be key in achieving cost-effectiveness and operational excellence.
Offering the flexibility to work from Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, or Perth, with options for remote work, this role is perfect for strategic thinkers who have a deep passion for subcontract labour and procurement. The role requires proactive involvement in developing and implementing category strategies, achieving optimal cost efficiency, and maintaining compliance with industry standards.

Initial travel will be considerable for stakeholder engagement, business familiarisation, and category research, later transitioning to as-needed travel for ongoing management and strategic initiatives.

Key responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing category strategies and plans that align with company objectives, based on in-depth market analysis.
  • Identifying and leveraging opportunities to enhance value, reduce costs and risks, and improve safety, quality, and customer service.
  • Leading stakeholder collaboration to ensure their performance, technical, and operational requirements are met.
  • Managing major tenders and market engagement activities in line with category strategies and objectives.
  • Overseeing vendor negotiations, contract establishment, and performance management to ensure service excellence and compliance with safety, and ESG initiatives.
What you will bring to the role:
  • Renowned for your extensive knowledge of the Subcontract Labour market and best-practice procurement principles, you excel in forging effective relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders. Your application should demonstrate:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of labour regulations and compliance requirements within the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in the subcontract labour or construction sector, with keen insights into market dynamics, trends, and industry best practices.
  • A degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, or a recognised procurement certification such as MCIPS, is highly regarded.
  • Extensive senior-level experience in procurement within the construction sector, demonstrating your capability to lead and bring innovation to procurement processes.
  • Outstanding collaborative skills, evidenced by a solid history of forging robust internal and external partnerships.
