By supporting the academic endeavour across teaching, research, and the student life, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to activities that have a lasting impact on our community.Join a community where excellence is at the core of our culture, contributions are valued and a range of are available, such as:26 weeks paid parental leave or 14 weeks paid primary caregiver leave17% superannuation contributions17.5% annual leave loadingAccess to flexible working arrangements including hybrid working options, flexible start/finish times, purchased leave, and a condensed fortnightHealth and wellness discounts – fitness passport access, free yearly flu vaccinations, discounted health insurance, and access to our Employee Assistance Program for staff and their immediate familyOn campus childcare optionsCheap parking (from just $5.75 a day)Salary packaging optionsAbout This OpportunityThe Central Sterilization Facility Assistant will provide sterilisation Services and support to all org units housed in the QBP Building, including CSIRO Divisions, as well as QAAFI and QEDDI.Research and administrative supportCollection and handling of dirty glassware and plastic ware from laboratoriesSorting and loading laboratory glassware washers - operation and performance monitoring of washer loads using batch visual inspection and standard hospital washer test devices.Return of glassware to storage locations on each floor in the building.Identifying and removing non compliant (cracked or chipped glassware according to laboratory standards)Maintaining supplies of operational consumables for CSF unitCollection, handling and disposal of laboratory path waste via the ACE Waste bins for the whole of QBP.Loading and Operation of large steam sterilisers, monitoring and recording performance, keeping required records for Biosecurity and OGTR compliance.Handling and processing autoclave waste, monitoring and recording batch sterilisation details and communicating them to lab staff for Biosecurity compliance purposes.Preparation and packing of hard goods, fluids and bacterial growth media (liquid and semi solid) for sterilisation and use by laboratory staff.Identifying and monitoring items supplied by lab staff for compatibility in autoclave cycles, and using most appropriate sterilising method. (Autoclave, dry heat)Reporting deviation from standard practices and procedures, anomalies and fault occurrences to Supervisor.Follow all safety and operation protocols of the CSF unit.Participate in a roster that engages all CSF staff in all operational aspects of the team to cover for absences due to leave or illness.Collection of dirty lab coats and laundry, bar code recording and packing for processing by laundry. Identifying and sorting lab coats to return to Divisions of CSIRO, QAAFI and IMB occupying the QBP Building.Maintaining kitchen supplies in meeting rooms / tea towels, large towels and collection for laundering.Maintaining soap and paper towel supplies at laboratory hand wash stations in compliance with OGTR and Biosecurity requirements.All CSF staff at QBP have been trained in Cert III sterilisation either as a requirement of employment or as development opportunity to ensure they understand the importance of procedure to operation integrity of the unitMonitoring a range of performance and quality control measures to ensure equipment is operating according to specification and load batch criteria are met.​This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 2 years.At HEW level 3, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $63,689.65 - $70,103.64, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $74,516.89 - $82,021.26 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.About YouThe Scientific (Professionals) Job Family comprises professional staff with specialist scientific skills, knowledge and/or expertise across a range of scientific disciplines and professional areas.Completion of a Year Twelve or Diploma qualification, or a Certificate IV with relevant work experience; or Completion of a post-trades certificate and relevant experience and on the job training; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. Training or experience in laboratory support operation.Knowledge of steam sterilizer operation, function and required techniques for loading and packaging for sterilization process commensurate with a minimum Cert III in Sterilization in order to comply with Biosecurity and OGTR waste handling requirements.Knowledge of laboratory operations, chemical and biological safety, application of appropriate sterilization technical knowledge to assist, advise and support laboratory operations.Manual handling, Attention to detail. Careful, methodical and meticulous following of protocols and procedures and reporting any deviation.Adapt to changing work volumes and periodic tasks. Adapt to equipment down time due to routine maintenance schedules and failures to ensure essential work is completed according to daily, weekly and monthly schedule of tasks. This may include calling on backup staff at short notice and adjusting routine within the scope of the CSF operations.Computer and database literacy skills including the Microsoft Office suite.Inter-personal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and a commitment to excellent customer service.Self-motivated and ability to prioritise workload to meet research deadlinesCommitment to excellence and an ability to work diligently with a high level of accuracyKnowledge of laboratory/research accreditation schemes and relevant occupational health and safety​In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply.
