WIRES’ Site Managers are responsible for optimising animal welfare outcomes in WIRES’ facilities and ensuring that WIRES’ facilities are set up to help the highest quantity of animals with maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
This Centre Manager’s position is a live-in position, based at Fitzroy Falls in the Southern Highlands and reporting to WIRES Head Office. The Centre Manager will live on site and work their full-time hours across a seven-day week. The salary package will be confirmed with the successful applicant and will incorporate accommodation and utilities provided.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Set up and oversee best-practice processes for all onsite rehabilitation activities.
- Work closely with WIRES’ Veterinary, Welfare, Training and WHS staff, and Species Teams, to optimise all welfare outcomes and ensure all onsite activities meet or exceed the relevant Code of Practice requirements.
- Manage the effective collaboration with local/specialist vets treating animals in care at the site, and with other wildlife organisations utilising the facilities, optimising welfare outcomes for every animal.
- Ensure essential WHS and emergency management protocols are in place.
- Oversee the launch of new rehabilitation assets and facilities onsite as required.
- Ensure all ongoing site management and maintenance requirements are addressed promptly and within approved budgets.
- Work with the broader team to set up and implement new training programs required for staff/volunteers.
- Confirm up-to-date, accurate treatment and care records are maintained within relevant systems.
- Assist with the coordination of approved visits, including government representatives and media.
- Prepare monthly site activity / impact reports and ad hoc reports for key stakeholders as required.
- Other projects and tasks as requested.
Key competencies:
- Extensive experience in animal handling, wildlife rehabilitation, animal welfare or facilities management. (minimum 5 years)
- Detailed understanding of the wildlife rehabilitation Codes of Practice.
- Appropriate tertiary education. (desirable)
- Veterinary training. (desirable)
