About the organisation
Council on the Ageing (COTA) NSW is the peak, State based organisation for people over 50. It is committed to achieving a society where older people are respected, consulted, included, represented, and heard.
By consulting with members and supporters, the CEO will work with politicians, policy makers, service providers and the media to ensure the views of older people are heard and acted on.
The Board is seeking a new CEO to work with them to continue its work and improve outcomes for older Australians.
Key objectives of the role
  • Provide strategic leadership for COTA NSW, including development, implementation, and evaluation of the organisational strategy
  • Translate the strategic plan into annual operational plans
  • Develop an annual budget, growing non-government income and financial grants and sponsors
  • Manage the organisation’s membership program and policy and advocacy program
  • Build strategic relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure governance requirements are met, and risk management processes are in place
  • Provide effective public representation of COTA NSW, enhancing the organisation’s standing and public profile
  • Support COTA NSW staff and volunteers regarding, but not limited to, training, development, reviews and recognition
  • Be an effective representative within the COTA network of organisations across Australia
Knowledge, skills, and competencies
  • Credibility and experience as a leader and relevant tertiary qualifications
  • A demonstrated track record in advocacy and policy work
  • Experience of working within a peak body and a strong understanding of the needs of a successful membership organisation
  • Experience leading community programs and services
  • Success in business development and in growing and diversifying revenue
  • A comprehensive background in effective leadership and management of a team
  • Proven success in high-level stakeholder engagement, sourcing funding, grants, and sponsorship
