The is the largest faculty in the University and contains seven academic schools, including (SMS). SMS has clinical schools located in metropolitan and rural campuses. The clinical schools, including , have strong collaborative relationships with the health services within communities in which they are located. The faculty operates across three major metropolitan health precincts, and one rural/regional precinct, where University facilities are co-located with hospitals and medical research institutes. Each precinct is a centre of multi-professional and multi-disciplinary education and research.

About the opportunity (position overview)

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding senior academic, scientist or medical practitioner at the level of Associate Professor or Professor to the position of Chair of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI). The Chair will undertake academic teaching and research activities through the Reproduction and Perinatal Centre (the RPC) and Westmead Clinical School. The position will be based at the Western Sydney (Baluderri) Precinct, co-located with Westmead Hospital. The REI Chair will contribute to teaching of health professional students, and higher degree research students across the Faculty.

If medically qualified, and eligible for registration, the REI may also undertake clinical duties as the Medical Director of the Westmead Fertility Centre (WFC). The WFC Centre aims to provide high quality Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) treatment for infertility at a low price to the people of Western Sydney and surrounds. The Centre also provides access to fertility preservation services to adolescents and adults who are diagnosed with a disease that may affect their future fertility. As the Medical Director of the WFC, the REI Chair will be responsible for the Centre’s clinical management including the training, competency, and supervision of all WFC clinicians. They will undertake academic teaching and research activities through the Reproduction and Perinatal Centre (the RPC) and Westmead Clinical School of Sydney Medical School. The RPC undertakes research in maternal and fetal medicine, pregnancy and its disorders.

.About you (skills, capabilities and experience)

To be the successful candidate, you will be a distinguished academic with a strong track record in reproductive endocrinology and infertility research. You will hold a PhD (or equivalent research qualification) and you may also be a medical practitioner and hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) or equivalent specialist registration as provided for under the Health Insurance Act 1973. You may also have a Certification of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI) or equivalent with continuing medical education in the field of REI.

To be successful in this role:

− Be a researcher with an established national (level D) or international reputation (level E), who is able to lead and produce competitive research in REI.

− Have a proven leadership experience as a successful administrator of a research group or academic or clinical department.

− Have a wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders, that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the RPC, WFC and the University.

− You may have an established clinical reputation in REI and contributed or lead a successful clinical service in REI.

Term and remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a 5-year fixed-term position on a full-time basis, with the possibility for renewal subject to assessment of performance. The appointment is subject to completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees.

The selected candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the level of appointment (Associate Professor or Professor) responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience, track record and qualifications.
