The Opportunity
As the Senior Financial Accountant at HBF, you will hold a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial accounting, control, and statutory reporting for entities within the HBF Health Group. Your responsibilities extend to overseeing the preparation of annual financial statements and providing essential technical accounting expertise, including crafting position papers for HBF's audit committee. Moreover, you will play a crucial role in guiding and supporting your direct reports, fostering their professional development, and facilitating seamless transitions during the implementation of new systems as part of HBF's Transformation Program.
About You
In this role, we are seeking a seasoned financial professional with a Chartered Accountant Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) qualification and a background in Big 4 firms, ideally with at least ten years of post-qualified experience in medium to large organizations. Your expertise should encompass a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles, including IFRS, and a track record of preparing statutory financial statements to the highest standards. Your exceptional written and verbal communication skills will be crucial, as you will be tasked with articulating complex financial concepts and preparing papers for executive committees. Additionally, your adeptness in navigating governance and compliance requirements, coupled with a proactive, self-starting approach, will ensure success in this dynamic and challenging role.
Essential:
- Chartered Accountant Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ)
- Big 4 trained, with at least ten years’ post qualified experience in a medium to large organisations
- Up to date CPD hours
- Current expertise in accounting principles and IFRS
- Recent experience in the completion of statutory Financial Statements to best practice/ASX standard.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience writing papers for Executive Committees
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant governance and compliance requirements (e.g. Accounting Standards, Corporations Law, Taxation)
- Excellent controls awareness, such as reconciliations, balance sheet verification, P&L check and data integrity
- Self-starter, with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, yet providing quality outcomes, with minimal supervision, (albeit in a team environment).
- Expert Excel skills and working experience in ERP’s (accounting packages).
Desirable:
- Experience in a PHI/financial services environment
- Experience with indirect taxes: GST and payroll tax
