About the Role
As Chapter Lead for the Data and Analytics Platform team, you will be responsible for leading the development, maintenance, and support of Institutional's Data and Analytics Platform (IDAP), delivering and supporting large-scale data management initiatives in a dynamic and complex environment.
You will utilise your expertise to drive the development of IDAP, designing, implementing, and executing a robust, scalable, and cost-effective shared-services data platform with a deep understanding of modern data mesh architecture paradigms.

What will your day look like?
As our Principal Engineer / Engineering Manager / Chapter Lead, your day will be filled with:
- Collaborative Problem-Solving: Working closely with business and tech stakeholders to understand their needs and demands on the data platform. Partnering with the platform architect to develop solution options that meet those demands.
- Technical Guidance: Providing expert advice on platform improvements, processes, and tooling to drive innovation and efficiency.
- Solution Development: Collaborating with data and cloud engineers to develop solution options and maintaining key design artefacts, such as Solution Design overviews.
- Design Governance: Presenting key design artefacts to governance forums, ensuring that our design guidelines and patterns are well-established and project-aligned.
- Knowledge Sharing: Building relationships with key stakeholders, providing technical guidance, and mentoring team members across the divisional-wide data mesh.
- Innovation Exploration: Contributing to the evaluation of new technologies to support capability gaps and performance improvements.
What will you bring?
We're looking for a passionate individual who comes with the following expertise:
- Data Maverick: 5+ years of experience with AWS Data Services, building cloud-native solutions, and integrating commercial, open-source, and automation tools. Overall 10+ years of leadership in IT experience.
- Hands-on experience with AWS Data Services and programming languages like Python, Bash, SQL.
- Proficiency in IaC & CI/CD tools (Terraform, Codefresh, etc.).
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and troubleshooting complex Kubernetes errors.
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments.
- Proven capability in managing large-scale data projects, aligning engineering strategies with business objectives, and understanding how data drives value for the business.
Team Player: Collaborative, valuing diverse perspectives and skills to achieve shared goals.
Growth Mindset: Committed to self-improvement, providing, and seeking feedback, and driving team growth.
Effective Communicator: Strong verbal and written skills, adept at leading discussions on project management, risk mitigation, and best practices across organizational boundaries.
Leadership: Proven track record in managing or leading teams building and operating cloud services in Data & Analytics. Strong talent development, conflict resolution, and goal-alignment skills.
Innovation Catalyst: Passionate about continuous improvement, process optimization, and advocating for better solutions.
Risk Taker (not reckless): Skilled in managing ambiguity and change, with a focus on sustainability and risk mitigation.
Certifications: AWS Cloud Certifications (AWS Professional preferred) and tertiary qualification focused on software development.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with application performance monitoring tools like Dynatrace/NewRelic.
- Familiarity with Agile/Lean/Continuous Delivery approaches.
- Knowledge of data modelling, query performance tuning.
