About AHCSA
The Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia Ltd. (AHCSA) is the peak body for Aboriginal health representing our 12 Members in the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health and Substance Misuse Services at state and national levels.
Our primary role is to be the ‘health voice’ for all Aboriginal people in South Australia. We achieve this by advocating for the community and supporting workers with appropriate Aboriginal health programs based on a holistic perspective of health.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia (AHCSA) is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving state-wide representation, advocating for Aboriginal health, and strategically leading initiatives that enhance health outcomes for Aboriginal people across South Australia by representing the voice of members.
This role is integral in providing support to Member Services, fostering advocacy for funding, overseeing the Registered Training Organisation (RTO), and ensuring alignment with AHCSA's values and constitutional objectives.
The Role
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) reports to the Chairperson of the Board. This position is expected to work in close collaboration with the Board of Directors, our 12 Member Services, all AHCSA staff, Funding Bodies, Key Stakeholders and Community.
Duties will include:
  • With our members provide comprehensive research, evaluation and policy formulation to lead to improved health outcomes
  • Provide comprehensive support and strategic guidance to our 12 Member Services, fostering collaboration and alignment with AHCSA's objectives
  • Represent and advocate for members interests and concerns nationally through NACCHO.
  • Champion advocacy efforts at both federal and state levels to secure funding and resources that positively impact the health and well-being of Aboriginal communities statewide
  • Drive initiatives focused on achieving positive health outcomes in alignment with AHCSA's vision and constitutional objectives
  • Lead the strategic direction and growth of the RTO, seeking substantial funding opportunities to sustain and expand its capacity
  • Enhance the delivery of current and future training opportunities while supporting and empowering Aboriginal educators
  • Ensure training priorities supporting our workforce are developed and prioritised based on the needs of our members
  • Strengthen relationships with stakeholders, government bodies, community leaders, and partner organisations to foster collaboration and support for Aboriginal health initiatives
  • Ensure effective communication and engagement with the broader community to address their needs and priorities
  • Be present and actively engaged with community and stakeholders through in person engagement and collaboration
  • Foster a sustainable organisational culture that embraces diversity, inclusion, and AHCSA's values, ensuring they are reflected in all organisational activities
  • Oversee all functions within AHCSA, providing guidance, direction, and operational leadership to the organisation
  • Create opportunities and pathways for Aboriginal staff to lead the future of AHCSA.
  • Establish and maintain high-quality service performance standards, developing systems to enhance key relationships and improve operational efficiency
  • Ensure best-practice and evidence based operational delivery through reflective evaluation and quality assurance measures
  • Provide advice to the Board of Directors, contributing to both operational and strategic decision-making processes in alignment with organisational performance objectives
  • Ensure alignment with AHCSA's vision, mission, values, and constitutional objectives, driving all activities and initiatives towards maximising community participation, ownership, and empowerment in determining Aboriginal health and well-being in South Australia
About You
  • Ability to obtain Confirmation of Aboriginality is mandatory as this is an identified position
  • Tertiary qualifications (Bachelor or Masters level) in Business Management, Administration, Governance, Leadership, Finance, Health or related discipline
  • Minimum five years’ experience at a Chief Executive Officer level, or equivalent, in a comparative health sector organisation and has worked with a Board of Directors, including the management of all compliance and reporting obligations and requirements
  • Proven track record in advocacy, securing funding, and strategic leadership, particularly in driving positive health outcomes at a statewide level
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, strong communication abilities, and the capability to foster collaborative partnerships
  • Formal training via the Australian Institute of Company Directors (or similar) in relation to Board Governance and the obligations of the Board, Directors and Chief Executive Officer, or willingness to undertake
  • Excellent commercial and financial acumen, including the ability to establish and implement operating forecasts and budgets and work within them to deliver the intended outcomes
  • Extensive experience in translating strategies and work plans into tangible and realistic roles and responsibilities for all team members.
