The Carpentaria Shire Council is situated in Northwestern Queensland along the picturesque Gulf of Carpentaria and encompass a vast area of approximately 65,000 square kilometres and serves a population of just over 2000 residents primarily residing in Normanton and Karumba.

About the Role
Carpentaria Shire Council is seeking a visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead and manage the organisation, driving strategic direction and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to the community. Reporting to the Council through the Mayor, the CEO will oversee a team of directors and executives, shaping the future of the Shire and contributing to its growth and prosperity.
Responsibilities of the Position
- Provide strong leadership and strategic planning, collaborating with Council and senior executives to develop and implement a ten-year strategic plan and annual operating business plans.
- Manage financial, operational, and service management aspects, ensuring prudent expenditure within budget constraints and maintaining high-quality service standards.
- Foster community development and stakeholder relations, cultivating relationships with government, community groups, and funding agencies to enhance services and promote Council's positive image.
- Drive workforce capability by managing human resources effectively and contributing to recruitment, retention, and staff development initiatives.
- Oversee quality, risk, and compliance management, implementing strategies to identify and mitigate operational risks and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Uphold good governance practices, maintaining professional governance protocols and reporting regularly to the Council on organizational performance and key initiatives.
Skills and Experience required- Proven experience in a senior leadership role, preferably within local government or related sectors.
- Strong strategic planning and financial management skills, with the ability to develop and implement operational business plans.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the capacity to foster positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Sound knowledge of governance principles, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a diverse workforce, driving a culture of innovation and service excellence.
