About the opportunity
Nova for Women and Children (Nova) supports women and children in Lake Macquarie and Newcastle who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or escaping domestic or family violence. Currently, the organisation operates across 5 locations across the local government areas they support.
Reporting to the Board of Management, the CEO is responsible for the overall strategic leadership, management, and future sustainability of Nova. Building the capacity of the organisation and service, with a focus on innovative practice and improving client outcomes, is key.
Other areas of priority include:
- Driving the delivery of mission, values and strategic objectives with the team and ensure organisational structures and capabilities are fit for purpose;
- Building capacity within the organisation and service delivery, positioning the prominence of the service within the local community, region and state;
- Establishing and maintaining a network of partnerships with relevant stakeholders in the region for the benefit of Nova and its clients;
- Overseeing the management of Nova’s financials, including setting operational budgets with the Board and ensuring financial and funding obligations are met with a focus on strengthening Nova’s financial resilience; and
- Managing Nova’s financial and non-financial governance activities including service agreements, audits and relevant reporting
We are looking for an experienced strategic leader who has operated at an executive level in a community service setting. You will be a present, engaging, and energetic CEO with a strong commitment to social justice who embodies feminist principles and Nova values. Others would describe you as an innovative and resilient leader who is trusted and collaborative.
Additional qualities and experience we are seeking include:
- Extensive leadership experience within the community services sector delivering quality outcomes for clients, experience within homelessness and/or domestic violence desirable
- Demonstrated ability and experience in leading, managing, and growing an organisation of a similar size
- Previous success in growing community partnerships and achieving increased funding from government and other stakeholders
- Significant experience in financial and risk management in the not-for-profit sector with knowledge of relevant governance requirements
- Tertiary qualification in social or behavioural sciences or equivalent essential. Formal leadership and management qualifications are desirable.
