Details: The Community Services Directorate (CSD) delivers integrated policy advice for the ACT Government and client centred services for those Canberrans who need them. It strives to support a safe and fair community where Canberrans can reach their full potential and lead fulfilling lives.

The Children, Youth and Families Division improves outcomes for children, young people and families in the ACT. Our work includes child safety, out of home care, family reunification and youth justice.

We are looking for a passionate and driven expert practitioner to join our leadership team. This is an opportunity to influence significant change in an area of complex practice and service delivery. The role will drive continuous improvement and the development of clinical support services across child safety and youth justice.

The Children, Youth and Families Division is in a period of change and reform. The Chief Practitioner is a new position reporting directly to the Executive Group Manager and make a significant contribution to this reform and the delivery of our Next Steps Strategy.

The Chief Practitioner will lead the work program to design and deliver the core foundations of family centred practice. They will be responsible for building capability and professionalism in practice and use data to inform a cultural of continuous improvement across the division.

The Chief Practitioner will lead the newly formed Clinical Services and Practice Assurance Branch. This branch is responsible for:

  • providing expert advice on contemporary best practice across child protection and youth justice
  • leading practice reviews
  • training and developing staff
  • capability building across the community sector and government.

This is an exciting role for someone who is ready to take on a challenge, lead change, model best practice and work across the government and community sector to improve outcomes for families.

Remuneration: The position attracts a remuneration package ranging from $274,784 - $285,773 depending on the current superannuation arrangements of the successful applicant. This includes a cash component of $244,201.

Contract: The successful applicant will be engaged under a performance-based long-term contract for a period of up to five years. Prospective applicants should be aware that long-term engagements are tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly.
