Are you a seasoned risk management professional looking to make a tangible impact in the education sector? We are seeking a talented individual to lead the risk function as a Chief Risk Officer and provide strategic guidance to Senior Executives. This role oversees integrated risk and compliance functions.

The ideal candidate will bring a background in risk management, assurance, business continuity and audit, with exposure to the education sector or similar research bodies highly regarded although not essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and cultivate a culture of risk management excellence. Oversee integrated risk and compliance functions, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Plan, develop, and enhance an effective risk management framework, ensuring compliance with legislation and education requirements.
  • Oversee the development and management of an independent internal audit service to mitigate risks and enhance governance processes.
  • Develop and maintain Critical Incident Management Policy and Business Continuity Plans to ensure effective risk mitigation.
  • Manage risk financing arrangements and oversee insurance renewals to mitigate risks
  • Provide specialist privacy risk and compliance advice
  • Regularly review and analyse risk management and audit functions, providing recommendations to Senior Executive for continuous improvement.
  • As the most senior risk advisor in the business, the CRO will provide strategic risk guidance to senior leadership, interfacing with the board, government entities, and the audit risk committee.
  • Manage the internal audit contract, liaising directly CEO and overseeing audit processes to ensure compliance and effective risk mitigation.
  • Lead business continuity planning efforts, ensuring the organisation's resilience in the face of potential disruptions.
  • Oversee a team of seasoned risk management professionals, providing leadership and guidance in risk assurance, business continuity, and audit functions.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance risk management practices, bringing improvements and best practices to the organisation while keeping abreast of regulatory changes.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Postgraduate qualification in Auditing, Business/Management, Accounting, or related discipline with relevant experience OR equivalent expertise gained from a combination of experience, training, or professional accreditation
  • Extensive risk management experience and expertise.
  • Sound understanding of legislative frameworks, standards, and best practices.
  • Experience leading and managing teams in large and complex organisations.
  • Some understanding of the educational sector would be great – preference for individuals with exposure to the sector through internal audit or working in similar research bodies or out of government bodies
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strategic thinking and project management expertise.
  • Ability to develop strategic partnerships and networks.
