About the Roles 

Child protection work is challenging, rewarding and fulfilling. Working alongside families, other agencies and Community organisations you’ll foster respectful relationships to help families build safety and support for their members. 

Child Protection Workers/Field Workers have responsibilities covering all aspects of child protection work. They respond to concerns regarding the safety and wellbeing of children, taking legal action where necessary, and maintain positive links and strong working relationships with other government and non-government agencies.

Senior Child Protection Workers and Senior Field Workers work with children, young people and families who are vulnerable or in crisis to ensure children are safe and protected from harm. They:

  • Undertake case work activities of a complex nature.
  • Make recommendations on the care and management of children.
  • Develop a high level of knowledge and skills in providing services and support to families and communities.
  • Provide expert advice to District staff members on child safety and protection issues.

Field Worker/Senior Field Worker positions are modified Child Protection Worker/Senior Child Protection Worker positions that are ONLY available in Regional WA locations.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made for this or similar future vacancies (fixed term or permanent) that arise within the next 12 months across the Department of Communities. 

Location

This recruitment process will be utilised to fill vacancies across the West and East Kimberley Region. Only applicants who are able/ willing to accept a position or relocate to the Kimberley (Broome, Kununurra, Derby, Fitzroy, Halls Creek) on being found suitable are encouraged to apply.

Qualification Requirements 

Under our Child Protection Workforce Model, priority will be given to qualified applicants in the first instance to maintain a qualified workforce. Should a qualified applicant not be identified then this selection process will be used to fill the vacancy.

If you have a Bachelors degree in Social Work, Psychology or relevant human services area, please apply for the Child Protection Worker/Senior Child Protection Worker position. Refer to our website for information about the qualification requirements.

If you do not hold an approved qualification, please apply for the Field Worker/Senior Field Worker position.
