The State Cinema is a Hobart institution that has entertained generations of Tasmanians for over 100 years, playing a major role in the social and cultural life of the Hobart community.
With eleven screens plus a Rooftop Cinema, there is always a wide range of local and international films on offer. A large Café Bar serves light meals along with a beautiful Bookstore with a hand-picked selection of stationery, books and gifts.
Skills & Experience
- At least 2 years of demonstrated team leadership/supervisory skills and a passion for customer service.
- Confident barista skills and a background in hospitality is highly regarded.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate initiative.
- Strong communication skills with attention to detail and superior time management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle customer concerns as they arise.
- Enthusiasm, with the ability to create a fun and friendly atmosphere.
- Flexible approach to working hours required.
- Ideal applicants will have confidence when using computers and preferably have previous experience in staff management and cash handling.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Cinema Complex Manager, assist with day-to-day operations of the cinema, café, bar, and bookstore. This may include, but is not limited to:
- Weekly film programming and projection duties.
- Monitor and maintain a safe, clean, and presentable environment.
- Stock control.
- Labour management based on trade levels.
- Handle complex customer enquiries.
- Opening/closing of the venue, cash management, and supervision of all team members as the manager on duty.
- Provide leadership and coaching to team members, setting the example with a hands-on approach and can-do attitude.
The role is casual on a rotating roster. Availability during peak periods is required, including nights, weekends, public holidays, and school holidays.
