ACCIONA Energia is growing rapidly and an opportunity has opened for a people focused Civil Engineer Manager. In this role you will lead a small team of engineers as well as civil and structural engineering aspects for Australian projects and provide support to construction activities for wind and solar farm Balance of Plant infrastructure.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role is primarily office based in Melbourne with occasional travel to construction and development sites.

People leadership
Proactive management of the team’s competing work priorities in a fast paced and dynamic environment to ensure business objectives are met
Mentoring and development of team members to build the team’s long-term capability and capacity
Development Projects
Project concept phase feasibility assessments, design optioneering studies, value engineering and construction methodology, risks, safety (including Safety in Design) and costs assessments
Management of concept and detailed design delivery for civil and structural infrastructure for primarily wind farms, solar farms and BESS projects
Lead development project constructability reviews including site based and desktop assessments
Ensuring team’s compliant review (and in some cases formal approval), of civil and structural designs.
Scoping and project management of geotechnical investigation activities.
Support project CAPEX and construction schedule development required for project financial investment decisions
Construction Projects
Perform engineering due diligence reviews and design management for design works outsourced to external consultants/contractors
Develop contract technical specifications and scopes of work and assist with the negotiation of procurement agreements for civil design and construction work.
Provide support to the Project Delivery Teams through the construction and handover phases. Support requirements include responding to construction RFIs, resolution of design implementation issues. Occasional site visit will be required.
Operations
Provide technical advice on civil engineering failures or incidents.
Provide technical advice for upgrades or modifications to operational infrastructure.
Develop contract technical specifications and scopes of works as required to support operation phase rectification works
General
Provide professional civil engineering advice regarding in-house developments, bids and delivery of third-party Engineering, Procurement and Construction projects and operational assets.
Assist in the development of tender documents for submission of external bids and other contracting opportunities.
Required Skills and Competencies
Degree in Civil Engineering
Proven experience in people leadership, mentoring and coaching
Significant experience (8+ years) in a technical role ideally in design and construction of wind farms or other large scale infrastructure projects
Experience producing engineering specifications and drawings.
Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary design and construction management team.
Strong technical report and scope writing skills.
Willingness and flexibility to travel.
Current Australian driver’s license
Project management skills, qualifications or experience
Spanish language an advantage
