About the Role
This is an excellent chance for a Junior Solicitor to join our Class Action litigation team at entry-level. Ideally, you will be a 1- 3 PQE lawyer with a keen interest in litigation. We appreciate you may not have much litigation experience, but you should have the motivation to learn and possess the skill-set to learn quickly and delight in working in a friendly team environment.
GMP lawyers are currently involved in or investigating class-action work across a wide variety of commercial and consumer activities. The work is demanding but never dull. Other commercial litigation occasionally crosses our desk, as we believe in up-skilling our staff in all aspects of litigation across the range of the firm’s activities.
Key duties and responsibilities
Provision of legal advice to clients
- Within the requirements of our client’s engagement, relevant professional conduct rules and other Statutory requirements, assist our Class Action team in providing legal services to lead applicants, in dealing with the court, with co-counsel, and with group members at the highest level, in a focused team environment;
- Accept, comprehend and carry out promptly tasks and instructions from team members in accordance with our Work Plans;
- Ability to participate in and contribute to conferences and meetings with lead applicants, expert witnesses and Counsel;
- Be able to respond to group member queries in a timely manner and help maintain a database of responses;
- Have the ability to work closely and comfortably with other team members, and contribute to the team’s development and the advancement of GMP Lawyers.
Professional Development
- Participating in relevant internal or external continuing professional programs and workshops;
- Contributing to the promotion and development of existing and of new cases within the Class Action Group, including in research and social media review and data-gathering and analysis;
- Attending and participating in Class Action team meetings and wider firm team meetings.
Administration and practice management
- Ensuring electronic files are up to date.
- Under supervision, monitor the payment of disbursements and manage databases of disbursements paid and outstanding.
- Arrange and facilitate video conferences.
Other
- Undertake any other duties as required by the supervising partner and Head of class-action.
About you
To be considered for this opportunity, you will need:
- Completed, or near completed, Law degree.
- High motivation for a career in Litigation Law.
- An interest in, or a willingness to learn about and work within, a class-action practice and to develop a passion for Class Action litigation.
- 1-2 years post-admission legal practice experience. Consideration will be given to an applicant without any post-admission legal practice experience, who possesses some workplace experience, and has the requisite skills and potential.
- A willingness to put in a full day’s work and pride in day’s work well done.
- A positive attitude toward dealing with group members, and a motivation to engage with group members diligently and patiently.
- A willingness to accept supervision and to work constructively and resiliently under supervision.

- Well-developed cognitive and analytical capability and the ability to apply such skills to class-action litigation work.
- Capacity and the focus to manage your work time, to prioritise tasks, and to see them through to completion.
- Above average communication and organisational skills and the ability to grow them.

- Capacity to plan, organise and implement work schedules.
- Ability to build positive relationships within a team environment and at all levels of the larger firm environment.
