Mater Health Services has an exceptional opportunity for an experienced, Clinical Coder to join the Clinical Coding team in a permanent full-time or part-time capacity. Based at one of our Mater hospitals in South Brisbane, Townsville, Mackay or Rockhampton you will also have the flexibility to work from home.
You will have the chance to participate in clinical coding across a wide variety of specialties at a tertiary level, for both public and private patients. The Clinical Coding Service seeks to enable the best possible outcomes for Mater patients and clinicians by employing health information management best practice to facilitate quality health information.

Salary range: $42.05 to $46.32 per hour plus superannuation and access to generous salary packaging up to $15,990
What you'll be doing
- Accurately assign specific morbidity and procedural classification to inpatient episodes in accordance with the Australian Coding Standards and to meet statutory and business reporting requirements
- Meet standards of coding accuracy and throughput and have awareness of DRG assignment and the impact on potential funding
- Identification of unclear or ambiguous documentation and subsequent initiation of coding queries and associated liaising with clinicians
- Participate and contribute to quality improvement and education activities and initiatives
- Apply the principles of confidentiality, privacy and security with the medical environment
The ideal applicant will demonstrate a hardworking, motivated and organised attitude and have the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision as well as working as part of a highly motivated interactive team.
To be successful in this role, you will possess high level of experience using ICD-10-AM and ACHI - 12th Edition and have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Australian Coding Standards. You will also possess a recognised clinical coding qualification. A minimum of two years clinical coding experience is desirable.
Experience using the 3M Code finder, WebPAS and/or iPM patient systems is highly desirable.
