Tell me more...The Midwifery Group Practice midwife will provide primary midwifery care for an allocated group of women (30-40 all-risk clients), in collaboration with other health care providers within the Midwifery Group Practice, at Weipa Integrated Health Service and the surrounding remote communities within a continuity of care model.
The Clinical Midwife will work in conjunction with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners and health workers, other caseload midwives, medical officers and allied health staff to provide a culturally appropriate high level care across the continuum of pregnancy, labour, birth and post-natal period (up to 6 weeks post birth) including health promotion and education ensuring the provision of best practice and high quality client care to women and their families in Western Cape York. The Clinical Midwife will provide support and supervision to junior members of the team including early career midwives and undergraduate students in midwifery in this exciting and dynamic newly established birthing service.

To be successful in this role you will have:
- Ability to comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care to women and neonates with varying risk categories, based on the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) National Competency Standards in collaboration with other health service providers.
- Demonstrate advanced clinical problem-solving skills and the ability to plan and evaluate maternity care, for all women and their family, in collaboration with other team members.
- Provide support, direction and education to women, their families and extended families and other members of the inter professional team.
- Ability to support and mentor students, new graduate midwives and indigenous health practitioners.

Requirements for the role:
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and/or registration/endorsement with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to commencement of clinical duties. Current registration with the Australian Health Practice Registration Authority (APHRA) as a registered midwife and current practising certificate is mandatory.
- Completion of the Fetal Surveillance Education Programme is essential with a minimum level 2 standard. FSEP currency must be maintained every 2 years.
- Current certificate in neonatal resuscitation and obstetric emergency management is essential.
- Experience working in continuity of care models and/or remote settings and/or indigenous or cross-cultural settings are highly desirable
