The position works across the Local Health District and also has state-wide, cross LHD responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Organ Tissue Donation Service (OTDS) in collaboration with LHD line management.What you'll be doingThe Local Health District/Specialty Health Network (LHD/SHN) Donation Specialist Nurse (DSN) is responsible for raising awareness of and providing clinical and educational services on organ and tissue donation for all LHD medical, nursing and allied health staff.The DSN will be actively involved in all relevant end of life conversations and the Family Donation Conversation (FDC), ensuring that all elements of the Best Practice Guideline for offering organ and tissue donation are met, in particular, the collaborative approach.The DSN is responsible for auditing deaths and organ donation referral practices across the LHD, as determined by the Organ Tissue Donation Service (OTDS) and the Australian Organ Donation and Transplantation Authority.The position works across the LHD and also has state-wide, cross LHD responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the OTDS in collaboration with LHD line management.People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background encouraged to apply.Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Registered with Authority to Practice with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Minimum five years full time post graduate experience with 3 years full time equivalent in the specialty field. In addition the applicant must have an approved post graduate qualification (minimum Grad Diploma/Certificate level) or evidence of working towards Masters level qualification.
- Current class C unrestricted driver’s license.
- Ability to work on call after hours and weekends at sites within the NSW Organ Donation Network across NSW.
- Commitment to champion, educate and lead other health professionals to improve organ and tissue donation rates and outcomes as part of a team.
- Proven clinical leadership skills in quality, research and/or education and demonstrated critical thinking capabilities.
- Experience in Organ and Tissue Donation Field (desirable)
