About your opportunity
Fixed Term Temporary full-time / up to November 2024
- Provide comprehensive specialized Psychogeriatric Mental Health assessments, short term coordinated engagement with Older Persons who meet the established criteria for Older Persons Mental Health Services (OPMHS).
- Provide psycho-geriatric consultancy, education and community outreach services to Queensland Health and other relevant aged care or Mental Health care providers within Townsville Hospital and Health Service (HHS) and maintain consultation and liaison services within the northern area as negotiated.
- Work collaboratively with consumers and multidisciplinary professionals to provide clinical care and a therapeutic environment conducive to the dignity and well being of consumers and carers.
Skills and experience:
- Provide and coordinate specialised psychogeriatric assessment, treatment, review and evaluation of care activities in collaboration with the consumer, carers, General Practitioners, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Provide leadership, support, research and education within the multidisciplinary team to ensure the provision of best practice in the clinical specialty within a continuum of care framework.
- Provide psycho-geriatric consultancy, education and community outreach services to Queensland Health and other relevant aged care or Mental Health care providers within Townsville Hospital and Health Service (HHS) and maintain consultation and liaison services within the northern area as negotiated.
- Work collaboratively with consumers and multidisciplinary professionals to provide clinical care and a therapeutic environment conducive to the dignity and wellbeing of consumers and carers.
- Previous experience in Old Age Psychiatry
- High level of interpersonal, consultative, negotiation oral and written communication skills to facilitate the patient journey.
Generous remuneration package value up to $10,702 p.m. comprising:
- Salary range of $4017.60 to $4302.00 p.f. (Nurse Grade 6 Band 1)
- Annual leave with 17.5% loading
- 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.

Requirements
- Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent is a required qualification for this position
- Proof of qualification, registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and possession of a current practising certificate.
- Highly Desirable:
- Credentialed status with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN). If not Credentialed with ACMHN or willingness to undertake and complete the requirements for certification as Credentialed Mental Health Nurse.
- Appointment as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) under the Mental Health Act 2016 or the willingness to undertake and complete the requirements for appointment.
- Possession of relevant post-registration and/or tertiary qualifications in Mental Health nursing.
- Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class “C” motor vehicle and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required.
- This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
