Clinical Nurse Specialist

This role will be required to deliver a clinical program based on the CNS’s specialist area. This will include facilitating education, support, and care to clients within the clinic. The role will also provide leadership and education to other clinical colleagues including doctors, GP Registrars, medical and nurse students and allied health professionals. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will assist in community engagement educational initiatives and health promotion activities.
Responsibilities
•Lead, develop and deliver high quality nursing services to FPHW clients, ensuring the provision of safe and effective care.
•Build strong relationships, provide leadership and direction to FPHW Thomastown Aboriginal Health Practitioners, Enrolled Nurses, Graduate Nurses and Registered Nurses.
•Manage your team to meet the strategic goals of First Peoples’ Health and Wellbeing. This includes rosters, leave requests, regular meetings, and performance management.
•Identify knowledge gaps, professional development opportunities and support the nursing/AHP team and trainees as required.
•Work with the Clinical Director and Human Resources to ensure AHPRA registration, competencies and qualifications are current for clinical team.
•Collaborate with your counterpart at the Frankston clinic to run monthly nursing/AHP meetings.
•Play an active role in Clinical Governance and offer support as required.
•Implement and ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies, ensuring safe working practice and timely incident reporting.
•Delegate daily clinical tasks to nursing/AHP team and assist when required:
oEnsure the nursing team keep consumables, equipment and medications stocked and maintained to the manufacturer’s standards and conditions including maintaining a register of stock.
oOversee the cleanliness of clinical rooms to a high standard in accordance with national standards.
oMaintain relevant registers, audits, and checklists.
oEnsure recalls, reminders and follow up of test results are reviewed, prioritised, and actioned in a timely manner.
Responsibilities – Specialist Program Delivery
•Provide one-on-one consultations with appropriate clients.
•Build clinical skills, confidence and capacity within the local Aboriginal community.
•Provide expert clinical care, assessment, education and self-management programs to individuals and their families or carers.
•Complete comprehensive health assessments chronic disease management plans.
•Work closely to support and assist other clinical colleagues in relation to your specialised area.
Other
•Assist the Site Manager in meeting AGPAL accreditation standards.
•Review data and reports regularly to ensure Closing the Gap National Key Performances Indicators (NKPIs) are met.
•Demonstrate a commitment to professional/personal development and continuing education.
•Participate in and contribute to team and organisational staff activities and meetings.
•Assist the Site Manager with the induction of new or trainee staff members.
