Job description

An opportunity exists for a talented and enthusiastic Clinical Nurse Specialist, Mental Health, to join the team at Broome Regional Health Campus – Kimberley.

This is a Permanent or Fixed Term Full Time appointment with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency.

To be successful, you will have...

  • Eligibility for registration in the category of Registered Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Demonstrated advanced clinical practice with knowledge and skills in the provision of acute Mental Health care.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership in a clinical setting.
  • Alibility to implement and evaluate nursing protocols pertaining to standards of practice, quality management and accreditation guidelines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and demonstrated experience of staff supervision.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current nursing trends and issues in the delivery of Mental Health care.

Position Profile:

Responsible for the supervision of Broome Mental Health Unit (BMHU) and consultation regarding admissions, ensures appropriate staffing levels and managers daily nursing roster. Provides specialist Mental Health nursing knowledge and skills in the deliverance of culturally appropriate care to Mental Health inpatients. Acts as a clinical resource to staff working in BMHU and in other areas in Broome Hospital. Deputises for the Clinical Nurse Manager as required.

  • WACHS supports flexible working practices and consideration will be given to flexible work/roster options, where operationally appropriate. 

The Country Nursing & Midwifery incentive program is available to new and existing nurses and midwives - across a broad range of patient-facing roles - on fixed term or permanent contracts at 76 select locations. Eligible nurses and midwives can receive between $5,000 and $17,000 in support over 12 months (WA Country Health Service - Country Nursing and Midwifery Incentive Program).

Area Profile

WACHS Kimberley is the most northern health region of WACHS. The Kimberley region has approximately 200 Aboriginal communities, over 34 different Aboriginal language groups and 45 percent of the population are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. WACHS Kimberley consists of six hospitals, an inpatient Mental Health unit, three Community Directorates and a Corporate Office. WACHS Kimberley provides hospital, community health, public health, remote area health, community aged care, and Mental Health services across the region through a dedicated team of medical, nursing, Aboriginal health, allied health, and support staff.
