Prison Health Services is a rapidly growing division within the West Moreton Health region, delivering primary health care services to detained, remanded and sentenced prisoners and Young Persons across eight facilities (six Correctional Centres and two Youth Detention Centres).

Prison Health Services has varied operating hours at each centre. Prison Health Services is a seven-day service with either 24/7 roster or two-shift roster (AM and PM), with centres varying between 8 hour, 9.5 hour, and 12 hour rotating shifts.

About the role

The Clinical Nurse is a registered nurse who is accountable for practice at an advanced level, working collaboratively within the unit and with other members of the health care team including consumers/carers, other health professionals, general practitioners and other agencies (including non-Government agencies). This role provides the delivery of clinical care and support specific to Primary Health Care within a Correctional or Detention setting.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge in the area of primary health care delivering expert nursing care in complex situations while providing support and direction to other team members. Greater than two years clinical experience in corrections, primary health care, emergency or rural and remote health would be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated ability to role model excellent standards of comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care and documentation to facilitate quality patient outcomes, in accordance with National Safety and Quality Health Service and professional standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high standard.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate staff and manage delegated resources including prioritising needs and supporting day-to-day changes.
  • Demonstrated ability to support and lead quality improvement and research initiatives within the work unit, contributing to the use of evidence based practice to facilitate improved patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team, patients, relatives and visitors and maintain a positive workplace culture through well developed consultation, liaison, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical
