About the Role:
Canberra Sexual Health Centre (CSHC) is based at the Canberra Hospital campus in Garran. CSHC provides sexual health and HIV care and is home to the Adult Gender Service (AGS) providing gender care to adults and adolescents aged 16 and over. The AGS has close links with the Paediatric Gender Service. (PGS).
Together, AGS and PGS comprise the CHS Gender Service, providing interdisciplinary support for children, young people, adults and their families with gender concerns or gender dysphoria in the ACT and surrounding regions. The Gender Service aims to improve physical and mental health and quality of life outcomes for trans-gender diverse (TGD) people of all ages by providing care in which individuals feel safe, supported, and listened to throughout their gender identity experience.
Clinical care is delivered by highly trained health workers using a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach embracing family and peer support, reducing stigma and discrimination, and optimising physical and mental health outcomes.
This Clinical Psychologist position will deliver high level clinical services as part of the AGS and CSHC. This new role will work with a multidisciplinary team to assess, diagnose, and manage the mental wellbeing of adolescents >= 16 years and adults seeking gender care. The Clinical Psychologist will also contribute to the care of other patients with sexual health conditions that affect their mental wellbeing.
The position will involve supporting patient intake, neurocognitive assessments, counselling, providing reports and liaison with peer support agencies, specialist networks and ACT Government bodies.
The Allied Health Care Provider will report to the Director of Allied Health supported by the Director of the Canberra Sexual Health Centre both based in the Division of Medicine.

Please note prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:
- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
- Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination procedure.
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.
Notes: There is one position available, however, it will be filled at either the Health Professional Officer 3 or 4 level depending on qualifications and experience. This position is part-time at (29.24) hours per week and the full-time salary noted above will be pro-rata.

Canberra Hospital Expansion Project – CHS is constructing a new critical services building called ‘Building 5’ which is a 44,000sqm nine storey building specifically designed to deliver state-of-the-art acute clinical services at the Canberra Hospital. North Canberra Hospital - As of 3 July 2023 Calvary Public Hospital Bruce transitioned to CHS and became North Canberra Hospital. The transition will deliver a health system networked under one provider and will provide increased workforce opportunities for staff at both CHS sites. The ACT Government will be building a new northside hospital on the existing hospital campus in Bruce to meet the growing health care needs of our community, with construction to commence mid-decade providing more beds, increased services, and increased career opportunities.
