About the Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Michael Rice Centre's team as a CLINICAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT, where you will be working directly in the MARVEL-PIC project team.  

This project is a randomised controlled trial of implementing pharmacogenomics research at the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne within immunocompromised populations, to 3 additional Australian paediatric sites, including the Women's and Children's Hospital in Adelaide.

You will liaise closely with the academic pharmacists at the site to assist with education of the protocol, assistance with questions arising within the day to day running of the protocol and assist with weekly reporting meetings.

The trial will involve enrolling on the trial, interview by the academic pharmacist with patients/parents to interpret Ped-PRO-CTCAE grading of toxicity and assign formal CTCAE grades together with performing adverse drug reaction causality assessment. The position will include undertaking these tasks directly for South Australian patients.

The position will play a key supporting role with the Consultant Oncologist, and project lead at WCHN site, in ensuring the project runs to time and meets milestones. Liaison across multiple stakeholders (pharmacy, nursing, junior and senior medical staff) will be imperative. Education to all stakeholders will be required and organised as a team for the program.

The role requires a detail-oriented, thorough person with strength in organisation, communication and working to deadlines. The position suits a friendly and outgoing personality that can work with people across all levels of the institute.

Key accountabilities include: 

  • Support activities of the expansion of the randomised controlled trial MARVEL-PIC.
  • Assist with detailed, accurate information / data collection and report development for programs of work.
  • Monitor and manage processes to ensure all funding obligations, ethical guidelines and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Attendance at state meetings, workshops, and committees where applicable.
  • Support research activities as required, such as maintaining trial records, and developing methods of the analysis of data.
  • Demonstrates independent judgement and initiative.
  • Identifies recommendations, guidelines and policies and works with supervisor to deliver at the project level.
  • Organises and attends meetings with external stakeholders, leads external meetings with support and direction.
  • Seeks to facilitate or develop interactions within the participating Institutes, investigators and across relevant disciplines through collaboration.
  • Generates creative solutions to new and existing problems by demonstrating initiative relative to the position.
  • Developing and maintaining key strategic relationships in a complex, multifaceted program.
  • Coordinating clinical trials and for the collection of outcome data for the Australian and New Zealand Children's Haematology and Oncology Group (ANZCHOG), Children's Oncology Group (COG) and various projects as requested by the Department of Clinical Haematology/Oncology at the Women's and Children's Hospital. 
  • The incumbent works as part of a multi-disciplinary team which contributes to the service of excellence provided by WCHN facility users including staff, patients and students.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have experience in or / the ability to:

  • Experience in clinical trials coordination.
  • Experience in data management with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • High-level time management and organisation skills.
  • Ability to undertake minor research.
