Clinical Support Midwife
Learning & Development

Fixed Term, Part Time - 48 hours per fortnight

February 2024 to February 2025 (position funded for 12 months)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for interested Midwives at WGHG to join the Learning and Development Unit in the role of Clinical Support Midwife. This is a fixed-term part-time opportunity, at 0.6 EFT commencing February 2024 for 12 months.

We are seeking expressions of interest from motivated, experienced and enthusiastic Midwives to provide Clinical Support to the Maternity Unit. This would entail working with the Learning and Development Unit to provide support to the Clinical Educator within Maternity units via hands-on teaching, mentoring and guidance to all Midwives including Graduate Midwives, Postgraduate Midwifery students and Registered Midwives and Nurses to further develop:

  • Supernumerary supported time in Birth Suite, antenatal assessment and Postnatal
  • Support for acquisition of clinical skills including vaginal examination, artificial rupture of membranes, speculum examination, perineal suturing, application of fetal scalp clip, balloon catheter insertion, newborn examination and IV Cannulation.

Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate an interest in clinical education and support of students and Graduates, as well as holding multiple clinical competencies. It is advantageous if an applicant is a current assessor, although training can be provided for a suitable applicant. This position will suit someone who has an interest in moving into an education role in the future. Further information on this role can be found in the position description.

Our preferred candidate will have:

  • Registration as a Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife with the Nursing Midwifery Board of  Australia
  • Postgraduate qualification in the relevant clinical specialty area
  • Demonstrated clinical excellence including advanced scope of practice
  • Demonstrated experience in preceptoring, supporting and developing others
  • Demonstrated experience in providing administrative/preparation support for relevant education programs/activities

The following experience/qualifications would be considered advantageous:

  • Previous experience in education or desire to work towards an education role in the future
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) or relevant tertiary qualification in education
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint and Excel

IMPORTANT: All staff employed in the healthcare sector are required to be fully (3 doses) vaccinated for COVID-19 and Influenza (unless a valid exemption applies). Evidence of vaccination (or exemption) will be required to be provided prior to commencement.

The new hospital is set to feature 233-beds and 33 emergency department treatment spaces as well as aged care and an expanded maternity facility.
