These are set for a four year term with an extension to ongoing employment.The co-directors make an important contribution to the management and conservation of Australia's Great Barrier Reef by facilitating scientific research and education.The co-directors are responsible for developing and administering all operations at LIRS, which include:
- assisting visitors with pre-arrival trip planning and logistics
- ensuring work is conducted safely, in an environmentally sensitive and sustainable manner, and within legislated requirements
- development and maintenance of extensive facilities
- budgeting, financial forecasting and handling accounts receivable and payable
- managing and guiding development of the Lizard Island Fellowships and Grants program.
The Co-Directors also work closely with the

About YouThe successful candidates will possess robust and durable academic, leadership, operational, and stakeholder skills and knowledge, enabling them to take on a broad range of responsibilities to ensure the continued success of the Station.You must demonstrate:
- experience in effective leadership
- ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
- a strong commitment to customer service
- ability to plan and execute infrastructure developments
- ability to prepare and manage budgets and to handle accounts payable and receivable
- a high level of boating and scientific diving experience
- knowledge of current applicable scientific diving and boating regulations.
Essential requirements- A PhD in an area of marine science or extensive relevant scientific research experience.
- Current (or ability to obtain current) relevant diving qualification (minimum Dive Master or ADAS or equivalent), occupational dive medical, first aid, CPR and oxygen resuscitation certificates.
- A vehicle driver licence and a boat operator licence.
