Our Energy Minerals Division provides high-quality, independent coal analysis and services to many Australian and international coal companies. We have NATA accredited (ISO/IEC 17025) coal laboratories servicing all major coal ports in Australia and have significant involvement with the superintending of coal exported overseas, quality control at mine sites / power plants and borecore evaluation. Our tech services provide mechanical sampling design and commissioning for all bulk particulate materials.
Great opportunity to join our team in Gladstone QLD as a Coal Technician on a full-time basis to ensure the correct and timely preparation of coal and other related samples in accordance to the appropriate International Standards. You will also be responsible for all reasonable activities on your shift including staff training.
You will be responsible but not limited to:
- Ensure that correct procedures are utilised in all aspects of sampling, recording, preparation, analysis, storage and reporting.
- Provide and maintain a high quality of accurate and timely completion of the above.
- Ensure correctness, precision and traceability of prepared samples.
- Assist with the preventative maintenance of all preparation equipment.
- Comply and maintain a safety aware environment.
- Communicate on a shift basis to the previous and following shift.
- Ensure work area is kept clean and respectable.
- Ensure the compliance to International Standards.
- Relieve the Supervisor when and where needed.
- Use basic CCLAS to carry out booking in samples and analysis.
- Plan work in conjunction with co-workers to improve efficiencies and to maximise production.
- Calibration and Verification of preparation equipment.
- Identify all suspicious results and report to the Supervisor in charge.
Qualifications
- Coal sampling, preparation and testing experience preferred, but not essential.
- Experience with ICP is highly desirable.
- Computer skills - Excel, CCLAS (preferred, but not essential)
- Experience with float/sink chemicals, handling acids and chemicals
- Organisational skills
- Previous experience in general mineral laboratory environment
- Able to work unsupervised and take on leadership
- Able to work to tight and pressured deadlines
