About the role

An exciting opportunity to join the City of Coffs Harbour in a fixed term capacity as a Community Planner. This position sits within the City's Local Planning Section and supports the section by developing effective strategic initiatives to address community planning priorities. Currently, this includes a focus on vulnerable communities, such as homelessness.

Use your experience in social science or the social planning field to review key social impacts facing the Coffs Coast community in relation to homelessness. Bring influence across the City's strategic direction with your knowledge of social policy and policy development on this key issue.

The successful candidate will be versed in establishing and maintaining positive key relationships and linkages to monitor social trend to impact decision making within your stakeholder groups and possess attributes to provide recommendations.

Do you have these key attributes?

  • Excellent communication skills across written and verbal platforms and the ability to produce high quality accurate documentation.
  • Solid interpersonal, negotiation, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking and critical thinking skills with a demonstrated capacity to use discretion and make sound judgement.
  • Project management skills, including initiation, planning, monitoring, closure, and implementation.

What is on offer?

  • $86,190.72 per annum + Superannuation
  • Fixed Term parental leave contract (concluding October 2024).
  • 35 hours per week

Essentials Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant qualification and/or significant practical experience in a social science or social planning field.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in social research, policy development, and demographic/trend analysis to support strategic projects and social planning.
  • Experience in the provision of social policy advice in complex and multi-disciplinary organisations
  • Current NSW working with Children Check.
  • National Police Check.
  • Current Class C Drivers Licence.

Desirable

  • Experience and knowledge of the Local Government sector.
  • Sound knowledge and experience on vulnerable communities, in particular homelessness.
