About the Role
Join us at the heart of knowledge, the Baillieu Library in Parkville, as a vital member of the Archives and Special Collections (ASC) Collection Management team. Collaborate with ASC colleagues to contribute to the successful delivery of exhibitions, strategic engagement initiatives, and other multi-faceted collection projects across multiple sites. 

As a key player, you'll be managing logistics and undertaking the documentation and registration for loans, displays, and associated programs within ASC. 

Liaising with Scholarly Services and various university departments, you'll be a passionate advocate for the collection, ensuring its safe management and widespread accessibility across both physical and virtual realms.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Efficiently coordinating logistics for ASC events and exhibitions. 
  • Managing exhibit preparations, installations, and de-installations, along with handling incoming/outgoing loans and freight. 
  • Collaborating on operational aspects of ASC events, exhibitions, and outreach programs. 
  • Under direction, act as the primary liaison for contractors and stakeholders, ensuring their activities align with directives.  

Who we are looking for
We're actively seeking a candidate with proven expertise in the management of cultural collections, demonstrating a successful track record in formulating and executing risk mitigation strategies for the handling and display of cultural materials . Your experience should extend beyond the technical aspects, encompassing a strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team, and be adept at anticipating and resolving potential and emerging issues 

Your proficiency in tasks such as object preparation,  managing movement tracking and security, and presentation within an exhibition setting is essential. Your excellent communication skills will be crucial in collaborating across diverse stakeholder groups and facilitating smooth interactions and cooperation. Additionally, we highly value your in-depth knowledge of preservation and conservation principles, especially your capability to prepare and assess detailed condition and facility reports, identify potential risks, and ensure the safe handling and display of objects. 

You will also have:

  • Tertiary qualifications and professional experience in arts, cultural heritage management, museum studies, or related fields, or possess an equivalent blend of relevant experience and training.
  • Experience in executing exhibitions and related projects, showcasing proficiency in current design practices, advanced installation techniques, coordination of local and international loans, contract management, logistics, and expertise in risk management and compliance.
  • Possess knowledge and hands-on experience in Collection Management, registration, logistics, and modern information management standards for cultural and/or heritage collections.
