The Opportunity
Silk has an exciting opportunity for Commercial Manager to join our Commercial team in Port Melbourne. The Commercial Manager (Warehousing and Distribution) will work closely with the Finance leadership team, General Managers of aligned business units, Business Development, Customer Development, Solutions Development to provide strategic commercial and financial advice, guidance and direction to deliver the Company strategy and financial targets.
Reporting to the General Manager of Commercial, this role will be responsible for:
- Assisting in delivering business strategy across customer income, competitor penetration, margin improvement and price & mix analysis
- Identifying opportunities to increase profitability, competitor advantage, shareholder value and business growth
- Reviewing and validating all financial and commercial information prior to release to the relevant business unit
- Support the Solutions Team in the Development of customer led solutions with analytical review capturing all commercial inputs
- Provide perceptive commercial insight in the review of customer and tender setting, including financial analysis and provision of supporting data for relevant approvals
- Actively engage with Distribution Carriers to manage Fuel Levy impacts, rate increases and invoice reconciliation
- Actively ensure the Business Distribution Systems are maintained across current rates, billings, Fuel Levies and that ancillary charges are being captured and billed
- Driving the budget process for the business unit and providing forecasting, reports to budget and key variables
- Overseeing the production of monthly management commentary for the business unit giving a clear understanding of key business trends
- Providing commercial and strategic insight to overall asset management
- Supporting commercial and financial aspects of customer contracts regarding new business, pitches and opportunities
To be successful in this role you'll have:
- 5 years’ experience in a similar role and fast-moving business environment
- Accounting or Business degree
- Experience in the Logistics/Supply Chain/Distribution/Distribution Sectors
- Strong financial analysis skills with the ability to work across complex and various data sources, including TMS & FMS.
- Advanced Excel skills and the ability to use other analytical tools such as BI
- Can-do attitude, and high attention to detail and accuracy
