Crime Stoppers Victoria (CSV) is a not-for-profit organisation that empowers Victorians to feel safe and to help keep each other safe. For over 30 years we have been helping Victorians make their community safer by helping them to prevent crime and confidentially report crime information.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager, Marketing and Communications, the Communications Officer will source, develop and distribute communications content while maintaining and strengthening the rhythm of communications and relationships with external media outlets. They will play a vital role in enhancing community engagement, brand development and partnerships.
Job Responsibilities
- Developing written communications material including blog articles, fact sheets and other content for various owned channels.
- Sourcing information from Victoria Police and other partners for writing media releases, fact sheets, key messages, and briefing notes to assist with engaging external media.
- Interviewing subject matter experts to be recorded and included in CSV’s published media.
- Liaising with journalists and media outlets to explore and maintain opportunities and coordinate media events.
- Media monitoring and regular campaign reporting.
- Representing Crime Stoppers Victoria as a spokesperson on approved regular media opportunities.
- Working closely with all members of the marketing and communications and broader Crime Stoppers Victoria team.
Key Selection Criteria
- Tertiary qualification in journalism, media, communications, or public relations.
- Minimum 2 years experience in media, marketing and/or public relations.
- Demonstrated experience in providing advice to management on media/communications issues and performing media advocacy.
- Demonstrated ability to write and edit communications material including media statements, publications, website copy, news articles, fact sheets, and briefing notes to a deadline with an exceptional level of attention to detail.
- An infectious enthusiasm for telling stories.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships and work productively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven problem-solving ability with a strong client service focus and a “can do” attitude.
- Excellent organisation, and time management skills with the ability to deal comfortably with ambiguity and complexity.
- Tenacity to see projects through from conception to execution and evaluation.
- Sound decision-making and judgement.
