Community Connector

About the role:

The Better Futures Program supports young people transitioning from the care system into independence. Better Futures works alongside young people who are leaving out-of-home care to identify goals and aspirations and connect them to their community.  Young people are eligible for Better Futures support from 15 years and 9 months until their 21st birthday.

The Better Futures Model adopts an Advantaged Thinking Framework which is a philosophy about using the advantages we possess as humans – our assets, talents, resources, and abilities – to create the conditions for a society in which everyone can thrive. 

The Community Connections role is a key component of the Better Futures Model and aims to build networks of supportive relationships for young people in their local community. The Community Connector will broker access to new pathways, opportunities, networks, and resources within the community, so that young people can build enabling and sustained connections.

Community Connections focuses on improving young people’s social capital, with an emphasis on building support networks outside of the service system that provides opportunities for community participation and access to new pathways. 

The Community Connector works in collaboration with the Better Futures Case Advisors to match each young person with pathways and connections within the community. 

At times the Community Connector will be required to complete direct client work to meet the demand of the Better Futures Program. 

Selection Criteria:

•  A relevant tertiary qualification such as Diploma of Community Development, Bachelor of Social Work or Psychological Science and/or proven relevant experience to this role.
• Demonstrated understanding and experience of the issues related to young people with a care experience and factors that may have impacted them and their families.
• Experience liaising, networking and brokering relationships with professionals, businesses and community organisations.
• Experience with volunteer coordination.
• Experience in developing and delivering tailored training packages.
