About You
You are looking for a part-time role in a well-respected Community Legal and social welfare agency for young people.
You are enthusiastic about working with young people and the people who support them, is young person-centric and respects the right of young people to be involved in decisions which affect them and their lives, and is passionate about the law, legal system and young people’s legal rights within that system.
The YAC’s Community Legal Education (CLE) officer attends schools, youth agencies and organisations across Brisbane to provide information so that young people can better understand the law and how it affects or applies to them and legal processes. The CLE Officer provides workers with young people (youth workers, teachers, school guidance officers, etc) with information and training about legal issues relevant to their work and their clients.

YAC has a multidisciplinary team delivering services across the greater Brisbane area generally, to young people aged 10-18 years who are involved in, or at risk of involvement in the youth justice and/or child protection systems, and/or are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

- to young people and workers with young people
- about the law, legal system and young people’s legal rights within that system
- which is young person-centric and respects the right of young people to be involved in decisions which affect them and their lives.
About the role - Summary of responsibilities (see full details in Position Description)
- Develop resources for, and give info sessions to, young people.
- Lead projects delivering legal information focusing on specific areas of the law relevant to young people.
- Develop and update (as needed) resources for, and deliver training or information sessions to youth workers, and other people working with young people.
- Contribute to the critique of current and proposed law and youth policy and to raising the awareness of the government and the community
- Comply with reporting obligations as required by funding requirements.
For this role, you must have:
- Tertiary qualification in Law or similar qualification incorporating a comprehensive knowledge of the Queensland Legal System in particular the criminal law system.
- Possession of a positive Qld Working with Children check (“Blue Card”) (Qld ‘No Card, No Start’ rule applies).
- Possession of a clean “C” class Driver’s Licence.
- Australian citizenship, permanent residency or a permanent visa which allows you to work as advertised.
