Community Programs Officer (Multicultural)
Surf Life Saving South Australia (SLSSA) presents a rare and exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join their dynamic team in an innovative, newly created position.
Environment:
SLSSA is the peak organisation for water safety and lifesaving services in South Australia and is affiliated with Surf Life Saving Australia. We aim to achieve zero preventable deaths in South Australian waters and build connected, inclusive communities.
SLSSA is responsible for the governance, development, promotion and administration of surf lifesaving throughout South Australia and has the responsibility for servicing its 9,000 members and 22 clubs.
Position Scope:
The Community Programs Officer (Multicultural) is responsible for providing administrative support for our Community Programs primarily focused on multicultural initiatives. This role is critical as we strive to connect and educate the community in lifesaving skills for life.
The Officer will deliver key projects such as the Active State Collaboration Culturally and Linguistically Diverse project and the Indigenous Surf Sports Programme, aiming to reach more individuals from CALD and Aboriginal backgrounds.
By championing inclusivity and diversity, the Officer will support the implementation of new and existing multicultural initiatives and extend their support to other Community Programs.

Key Areas of Responsibility
The Community Programs Officer (Multicultural), under the direction of the Aquatics Program Coordinator, is responsible for:
- Administering the Active State Collaboration CALD project according to funding requirements, including the following key activities:
- Refugee and Migrant Program
- Welcome to SA Shores
- International Student Program
- Administering the Indigenous Surf Sports Programme in compliance with funding requirements.
- Organising all travel arrangements for teams traveling to the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands.
- Collaborating with key partners, community groups and pool operators to ensure successful program delivery through bookings, recruitment, and transition.
- Working with pools, community groups, and clubs to promote SLSSA’s community awareness and water safety strategies.
- Connecting community program participants with SLSSA Clubs.
- Supporting SLSSA processes and procedures to staff and deliver the project appropriately.
- Providing administrative support for program instructors, assistants, and volunteers.
- Assisting with promotional activities through social media and other activations.
- Supporting the development of new multicultural initiatives and providing administrative support for these initiatives.
- Provide administrative support to the Community Programs team, enabling children across the state to access SLSSA training, education, and water safety.
- Support the Aquatics Programs team in serving the entire Aquatics Industry.
- Act as a key member of the customer service team to support community program enrolments.
Other
- Ensure databases, including Deputy and GameDay, are accurate and up-to-date for internal and external reporting purposes.
- Any other reasonable duties as required.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other computer skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong verbal and written communication.
- High attention to detail.
- Outstanding administrative abilities.
Desirable
- A recognised qualification in Human Services, Community, Sport and Recreation or relevant industry is desirable.
- Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of multicultural communities and their unique needs.
- Experience in the nonprofit, aquatic, or sporting sectors is preferred.
- Proven ability in administration.

Hours of work:
The position is full-time, and the nature of the role requires some out of hours and weekend work in peak community program times.
Special Requirements:
The successful applicant will be required to understand and comply with SLSSA’s and SLSA’s Child Safe Policies and practices. They will also need to satisfy the requirements of a Working with Children’s Check and National Police Check and have a current driver’s license. There may be further requirements for the successful applicant to be trained and educated in other relevant areas to ensure the appropriate leadership and skills.
