Cairns Regional Council is looking for a dedicated and skilled Community Resilience Officer to join our dynamic team!
Primary Objectives:
- Inform and implement Council’s broader strategic direction in relation to strengthening and sustaining social and Community Resilience across the Cairns LGA, with a specific focus on disaster resilience
- Implement a range of community development approaches to increase levels of Community Resilience in the Cairns LGA that address the key principles of disaster resilience across the phases of PPRR.
- Undertake broad community education and awareness raising to increase levels of disaster prevention and preparedness (including service/business continuity) among households, geographic communities, sectors (e.g., tourism) and networks.
- Establish and/or maintain models of collaboration and associated governance arrangements to underpin essential capacity for disaster management response and recovery capabilities (including place-based; networks; MOUs etc).
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships, processes and operations of evacuation and sheltering arrangements for the Cairns LGA, including assurance of operational readiness.
- Contribute to the effective functioning of the Disaster Management unit, including facilitating deployment readiness of the Cairns LDMG and IMT as requested.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Demonstrated experience in Community Resilience, disaster management, or emergency response roles, particularly within a local government or community organisation.
- Skilled in developing and delivering effective community education and awareness programs on disaster prevention and preparedness.
- Competence in developing and maintaining evacuation and sheltering processes, ensuring operational readiness.
- Strong ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including other Council departments, lead agencies, and community networks.
- Able to remain calm and efficient under pressure, particularly during disaster activations.
- Dedicated to continuous learning and improvement, staying abreast of best practices in Community Resilience and disaster management.
- Participate in an on-call roster during the wet season (Nov – April).
