We have an exciting full-time Community Support Worker opportunity available in our CLSR Ashfield hub. Arabic Speaking applicant required.
Mental Health Community Living Supports for Refugees (MH-CLSR) is a unique program that aims to provide trauma-informed, recovery focused and culturally appropriate psychosocial supports to refugees and asylum seekers who are experiencing psychological distress, mental ill health and impaired functioning.
This position involves a rotating roster, between Monday to Sunday, mix of office based & working in the community, between Monday to Friday 6am-8pm.

Based in Ashfield, you will report to the Team Leader in our Inclusion team.
Key responsibilities
- Provide direct practical support to consumers to improve and maintain their independent living skills. This includes assistance in budgeting skills, social activities, shopping and other areas.
- Develop, implement, and review person-centred, individualised support plans for consumers that are holistic, culturally appropriate and trauma informed.
- Support consumers to identify their wellbeing needs and aspirations in collaboration with the consumer’s family, carers and other key sources of support.
- Work closely with New Horizons and NSW Health clinicians in order to deliver comprehensive service to consumers.
- Facilitate consumer access to education, vocational training and employment opportunities.
- Support consumers to participate in social and recreational activities including assisting clients to develop/strengthen their relationship with their identified community.
- Engage in consumer advocacy and/or assist consumers to develop self-advocacy skills and strategies.
- Keeping consumer records up to date on a daily basis using online systems
Essential Criteria
- Qualifications in Mental Health, Social Work, Social Welfare or other relevant social science or behavioural disciplines.
- Demonstrated understanding of mental health issues affecting refugees and asylum seekers and the effects of torture on individuals, young people, families, and communities.
- Knowledge of the cultures and health needs of refugee communities in Sydney Metropolitan areas.
- Demonstrated extensive experience in casework and case management and the ability to liaise/advocate on behalf of clients to multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrated knowledge and an ability to engage with the NSW Health and Social Services sector.
- Technical literacy with proven ability to use Microsoft Office and systems for reporting
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
- Valid NSW Drivers C class licence, with ability to drive vehicles in licence class, including large cars and vans.
- Willingness to obtain an Australian Federal Police Check, WWCC and first aid certificate that meet New Horizons employment criteria prior to commencing with us
- COVID Vaccination in line with NSW Health Orders
Skill and Experience
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, and other legislative and sector requirements.
- Bi-lingual in relevant language.
- Lived experience relevant to the role.
