Job description

Position Summary

LOCATION: Western Australia

Want to live and work in the country and experience a different lifestyle?

WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is seeking applications from experienced Consultants in Emergency Medicine who are seeking a new challenge and a change of pace.

If you are an adventurous individual who loves nature and outdoor living, then country WA is the place for you!

Western Australia has more hours of sunshine than any other Australian state, with blue skies for most of the year.  The weather ranges across the state from a semi-arid interior to a tropical north, while the southern half enjoys a Mediterranean-style climate. Enjoy an active lifestyle with a wide array of water and land-based sports, camping and fishing destinations and beautiful scenic beaches with pure white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water perfect for swimming and snorkelling. The sun sets on the west and if you’ve never seen a sunset over the ocean, WA will take your breath away. Not to mention that there are a lot less crowds and development compared to eastern coast beaches. Western Australia produces a wide array of world-class produce, including seafood, cheese and an emerging trade in black truffles. The State is home to nine wine regions, including world-renown vineyards in the South West and Great Southern regions. WA is a year-round working holiday destination!

Our employees enjoy an amazing range of benefits which may include (in line with operational requirements):

  • Competitive salary packages – up to $574,000 p.a. (based upon location).
  • Assistance with Australian work visas (if applicable).
  • Attractive overseas and national relocation packages (discussions occur with regions once appointed).
  • Flexible working and leave arrangements.
  • Challenge yourself by experiencing greater clinical autonomy and responsibility in a supportive environment.
  • Make a difference and become an important member of the local community.

There are many exciting opportunities available in Emergency Medicine with a broad case mix including a significant number of high acuity and trauma presentations as well as interhospital transfers throughout the following regions:

Suitable candidates must be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA), hold fellowship with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine or equivalent. Have demonstrated experience in Emergency Medicine at a senior level and contemporary knowledge of professional issues and trends. You must have highly developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills with a commitment to clinical governance within healthcare. Significant experience in rural and remote Emergency Medicine provision and sound understanding of remote area health service provision is desirable.

Other Conditions:  WA Health engages staff in positions of trust and responsibility. WA Health policies require applicants to undertake criminal records screening and integrity checking as part of the appointment process. Referees may also be asked to comment on an applicant’s integrity and past demonstration of ethical behaviour.

This vacancy is subject to a Western Australian Working With Children (WWC) Check. For further information please refer to the WWC website at:

Please note this recruitment process requires completion of satisfactory Pre-Employment Health Assessment (PEHA).  Any offer of employment with WACHS is conditional on satisfactory PEHA to ensure you are able to perform the inherent requirements of the position. An unsatisfactory PEHA will result in the offer of employment being withdrawn.  Please see the attached WACHS PEHA Policy for further information.

This Recruitment Pool is for Fixed Term appointments at full time and part time hours for 5 years (lesser period can be negotiated) with the possibility for extension(s)

This is an active “open-ended” recruitment pool, and as such the following should be noted:
