About the Role
The Consultant Psychiatrist is accountable for the delivery of clinical services to the consumers of the AIS and SVMH, through providing high quality clinical services, contributing to service evaluation and research and displaying a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development in psychiatry.Promote liaison with the relevant acute health, community and Inpatient Services, Mental Health Community Support Services (MHCSS), private psychiatrists and general practitioners
Duties Include
- Ensure regular and effective communication with staff from the community and services of SVHM
- Work collaboratively with nursing staff and other mental health clinicians to ensure the optimum management of consumers' needs
- Assess and manage consumers of the service according to the current best practice standards, using the best available evidence and meeting the requirements of relevant law, ethics, and community needs
- Promote liaison with the relevant acute health, community and Inpatient Services, Mental Health Community Support Services (MHCSS), private psychiatrists and general practitioners
Classifications for this position will range from classification range HN18 - HN58.
Your Contribution
- Excellent qualities as a clinician and good communication skills with consumers and colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership in a multi-disciplinary psychiatric service
- Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery or equivalent
- Fellowship of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
- Registration with AHPRA
- Current National Criminal History Check, or willing to obtain

St. Vincent's Mental Health (SVMH) includes an adult area mental health service for the inner city areas of Yarra and Boroondara. The adult mental health service components are: The Yarra Boroondara Primary Mental Health Service (PMHS), the Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU), the 44 bed Acute Inconsumer Service (AIS) located on the St. Vincent's Hospital site, and two community mental health services (CMHS) at Hawthorn and East Melbourne (Clarendon CMHS). Community mental health services comprise the Triage and Crisis assessment and Treatment (CAT) service, Primary Intervention Clinical Team (PICT), Continuing Care (CCT), Mobile Support and Treatment (MST) and Homeless Outreach (CHOPS) services. NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Service, the Body Image and Eating Disorders Assessment and Treatment Service (BETRS) are regional services. Statewide services are the Victorian Dual Disability Service, the Victorian Transcultural Psychiatry Unit and Dual Diagnosis Education and Training Unit. The AIS includes 5 beds designated as the Koori State-wide Inconsumer Service and linked to the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service.Working at St Vincent's
