About Monash Mental Health Program

The Mental Health program aims to deliver high quality mental health care to people living in the South Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.

About the Role

This role is for a Consultant psychiatrist for a 0.5EFT maternity leave cover position in the Wellness and Recovery Centre, Eating Disorder Specialist Service in the Day Program at Monash Health. This role is based in Dandenong. This is a 12 month position, from 08.05.2024 – 06.05.2025.

This position is chiefly within the day program team of the service, working with a multidisciplinary team of experienced psychologists, dietician and junior medial officer to provide care for adult patients undertaking evidence based psychological treatment for a range of Eating Disorders. This is a consultant led service, and role involves liaison with both Monash Health and external treatment providers such as general practitioners, to provide specialist input and advice around medical and psychological treatment for eating disorder patients. The role also involves liaison and cover at times of the Eating Disorder inpatient and day program teams, and is supported by two other Consultant Psychiatrists in those arms of service.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Participation in weekly MDT clinical review to guide treatment planning, medical monitoring and risk assessment and management of outpatients.
• Regular review of day program patients to provide specialist oversight of treatment plan, management of medical complications, and psychiatric comorbidity.
• Undertake initial assessments of complex patients, for the purposes of diagnostic clarification, and to provide treatment recommendations to external health professionals and services.
• Secondary consultation to other Monash Health mental health and medical services, and external health providers such as GPs.
• Support and teaching of junior medical staff in the team, and also medical students.

• Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) 
• Appropriate health professional tertiary qualifications 
• Working with Children's Certificate
