Our ward needs an interested psychiatrist with experience in Youth and CAP, taking a developmental approach to working with a 16-24-year-old cohort. We especially need a psychiatrist who is able to work with the 18-24 bracket.
Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) recently opened an impressive, recovery-focused 102-bed Mental Health Service offering adult inpatient care, and for the first time, is catering for youth (16-24 years) and older adult (65+ years) inpatients. The Service offers open and secure accommodation, and beds are opening in a staged approach. JHC also operates a ten-bed Emergency Department, Mental Health Observation Area (MHOA) and a Consultation-Liaison service.

JHC is an accredited placement for Specialist Psychiatric Trainees and medical students from the University of Western Australia and Curtin University. The hospital has submitted an application to RANZCP for accreditation for basic and advanced training positions.

The successful applicant/s for this position will join a multidisciplinary team (Psychiatrist, Registrar, RMO/Intern, nursing staff, allied health, clinical psychologist, alcohol and other drug in-reach service) involved in the assessment and management of young people aged 16-24 within the youth mental health inpatient program at newly built youth unit at JHC.
The JHC Youth MHU is a 20-bed authorised acute youth unit with a dedicated, consultant-led consultation/liaison team. In addition to this, there is a 10-bed Mental Health Observation Area (MHOA) adjacent to the emergency department.
Psychiatry at JHC provides teaching and training for RANZCP trainees, participates in the hospital’s postgraduate medical education program and provides undergraduate education to medical students.
Remuneration:
Salary range, depending on experience - Year 1-9 consultant (Total package range $361,466 - $452,888 salary range pro rata)
Essential Criteria:
- Current AHPRA registration
- Fellowship of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in youth and child and adolescent psychiatry in a hospital setting
