The Position
The Heavy Ion Accelerators (HIA) National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) project operates world-leading particle accelerators for a wide variety of scientific and industrial applications. HIA infrastructure is hosted at the Australian National University and the University of Melbourne, and we enable researchers to build a fundamental understanding of nuclear physics, develop new medical treatments and tools to fight cancer, build advanced quantum computing technologies, monitor and protect our environment, and test electronics destined for space. In the advanced manufacturing sector, HIA supports the precise fabrication of quantum centres (the building blocks of quantum computing), microelectronics, advanced materials fabrication and prototyping of quantum sensors.
As part of the HIA team, you will play a critical role by ensuring HIA facilities remain world-class, and continue to drive innovation, collaboration and cutting-edge research at an international level.
This is a key role in the Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF) within the Research School of Physics, contributing in the development of creative concepts into practical and user-friendly control solutions predominately based on programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and the distributed control systems, EPICS (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System).
The Person
We are looking for a qualified Control and Instrumentation Engineer with expertise in across complex engineering projects to specify, deploy and commission new Control and Instrumentation system based on a variety of architectures, hardware and protocols. The successful candidate will need to work collaboratively with the HIAF users, so demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills is highly desirable.
