Work Location: Iron Bridge - Fortescue's Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.
Roster: 8D/6R - FIFO ex Perth
The company has commenced magnetite production with its first magnetite concentrate loaded on ship in July 2023.
Iron Bridge is Fortescue's US$2.6 billion project, set to deliver 22mtpa of high grade 67% Fe magnetite concentrate product. Located 145km by road south of Port Hedland, the mine will deliver an innovative process design and industry-leading energy efficient operation.
Iron Bridge represents Fortesuce's latest operation culminating in a new OPF/CHF, new technologies and camp facilities.
The Process Control Engineer, reports to the Senior Process Control Engineer and is responsible for the day to day running of the process control assets, building and developing the strong team culture, and identifying areas for improvement across the PC assets, wider team and operational management of the process control function
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively identify and resolve potential safety issues by integrating technical solutions into designs to ensure a safe work environment with zero harm.
- Oversee the installation and setup of drives, instrumentation, and various field devices to ensure they function correctly within the Control Systems.
- Lead the design, testing, maintenance, and modification of Control Systems, both new and existing, to optimise their performance and efficiency.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to provide technical support and solutions for operational needs and ongoing projects.
- Foster cooperative relationships with internal and external experts to design innovative equipment and systems tailored to the organisation's needs.
- Analyse process control issues to develop and implement purposeful improvement ideas, addressing anticipated or recurring problems.
- Provide ongoing maintenance support for control system assets, including PLCs, servers, network equipment, and field devices, to ensure their reliability and functionality.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or similar field.
- 3-5 years of experience as a process control system engineer in fixed plant/mining, with a focus on development and commissioning.
- Familiarity with mineral processing plants and balance machines.
- Basic understanding of Functional Safety Standards like AS 61508, AS 62061:2006, IEC 62061.
- Proficiency in control system software and programming, especially GE/Emerson Machine Edition/PPS, Cimplicity SCADA, Proficy Historian, and Proficy Change Management.
- Experience with various control system hardware (e.g., RX3i, RSTi I/O, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider).
- Proficiency in industrial communication protocols such as Profibus/Profinet, EGD, Modbus, Ethernet/IP.
- Strong understanding of IEC 61131-3 PLC programming languages (LD, FBD, ST, IL, SFC).
- Familiarity with PLC programming data structures (UDFB, UDT).
- Experience with data analysis, SQL, and C#.
- Experience working with VSD drives, particularly ABB and Siemens brands.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
