AddressA new opportunity has become available for a cook to join our friendly and professional team at Melville Island Lodge.
The position is available for start from 1st July, and is casual or for an ABN, with a veiw for long term, full time.
Located 60km north of Darwin, Melville Island Lodge is exclusively fish the creeks, reefs and waters that surround the Tiwi Islands.
Our unique guided fishing tours, along with our well-appointed lodge, and fantastic hospitality; makes us one of the best fishing lodges in Australia.
About the role.
You will be appreciated for preparing and delivering well-presented, high-quality meals, and maintaining a clean and tidy kitchen.
Duties will include.
- Daily food preparation and cooking of meals
- Monitoring food stock levels and ordering.
- Minimising food waste
- Processing fresh fish fillets
- Cleaning to maintain hygiene and cleanliness of the kitchen and stores
- Exercising awareness and knowledge of safe food handling practices
- Working within a team environment, and be able to communicate with people in a friendly and approachable manner
Qualifications, Skills & Attributes
- Must have experience cooking for a buffet setting for up to 30 people
- Must know how to cook tropical fish such as Barramundi, snapper etc, and have knowledge of different fish species
- Must have a clean, tidy and hygienic work ethic, and not be afraid to work towards maintaining cleaniless of the kitchen.
- Be creative and take pride in your work across all areas
- Be able to work independently, as well as part of a team
- A qualification in commercial cookery is desirable but not essential.
- At minimum, possess a Food Safety Handlers certificate or similar.
- Must have a strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Be able to remain calm when working under pressure
- Be reliable and honest
- Must have a good sense of humor
Our team is a jovial bunch that works like a well oiled machine, so being considerate towards your team mates, and using your initiative to help them out when needed is a must for this role.

Important to know
We usally work an 11on/4off roster. As staff are required to live on-site for the entire duration of each work swing, careful consideration must be given to the reality of living in a remote location, as the isolation is not for everyone.
