About the position
Council's Governance Department are looking for a Coordinator Governance who will be responsible for leading the team to proactively implement governance frameworks, policies and procedures to prepare for the upcoming Council elections.
The main responsibilities will include:
- Lead, support and empower the team in the Governance service unit to deliver priorities and create a positive team culture.
- Provide high-level governance advice to ensure compliance with the Local Government Act 2020 and relevant legislation.
- Proactively drive the development, implementation and review of Council's governance frameworks, policies and protocols.
- Deliver governance programs to embed a culture of good governance, ethical decision making and legislative responsibilities.
- Coordinate the maintenance of governance registers for Council's website and Transparency Hub.
- Coordinate the Councillor Induction Program and Councillor Induction Refresher Program in preparation for Council elections.
- Coordinate the production of quality agendas and minutes for Council Meetings and Councillor Briefings.
- Perform backup to the statutory role of handling Public Interest Disclosures as required.
- Support the delivery of a program to build a culture of integrity and awareness of Public Interest Disclosures.
- A tertiary qualification relevant to law, business administration or equivalent, or extensive experience.
- Excellent understanding of local government and extensive experience operating in a politically sensitive environment.
- Substantial experience leading and managing with the ability to build a high performing and engaged team.
- Demonstrated capacity to liaise with and effectively relate to Councillors, Directors, Managers, Coordinators and Officers.
- Ability to work autonomously and proactively review and develop frameworks, policies and programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively, including the ability to write reports, prepare correspondence and deliver presentations.
