Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) is a local government authority covering an area over 282,000 Sq. kilometres. CDRC builds sustainable communities through traditional local government services such as waste management, road repair and upgrades, and community services (Community Safety, Children’s Services; Youth, Sport and Recreation, Aged Care) in 12 communities to the North of Alice Springs: Lajamanu, Ti Tree, Wilora, Nturiya, Pmara Jutunta, Willowra, Laramba, Nyirripi, Yuelamu, Atitjere, Engawala and Yuendumu. The Central Desert area is considered remote and disadvantaged and over 80% of the population is Aboriginal.
The Role
The Coordinator, Roads is responsible for delivery of Council’s road maintenance programs and oversees the delivery of capital projects in accordance with Central Desert Regional Council strategic and regional plans, policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and coordinate the road maintenance crew and supervise the road maintenance programme.
- Ensure safe and efficient operation of road plants including graders, loaders and trucks and maintain safe work practices on job sites.
- Supervise road repair and maintenance tasks on link roads and internal roads.
- Report road infrastructure maintenance issues such as potholes, drainage problems, road furniture.
- Maintain and submit road crew timesheets.
- Maintain hob sheets on projects (machine hours, man hours, materials etc.)
- Ensure equipment damage and faults, supplies and equipment needs.
- Operate plant and equipment when required.
- Conduct work health safety toolbox talks with road crew.
- Mentor and train road crew to increase practical knowledge and skill of the crew.
- Adhere to all CDRC policies and procedures.
- Perform other civil construction tasks as directed.
