DESCRIPTION

Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented lawyer to join our International Consumer Legal.

This position is based in Sydney and will support Amazon Australia's growing consumer retail business. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in a dynamic in-house legal department with the opportunity to work on cross-border projects. As part of the Australian Consumer legal team, the successful candidate will collaborate with local and global legal teams and with diverse teams across the business to improve the customer experience and expand our products and services.

Key job responsibilities

The role will be responsible for:

  • Providing day-to-day legal support to business teams and developing strategies for handling legal issues in creative, efficient, and business-centric ways.
  • Helping business teams launch new services, features, and expand our product range.
  • Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements with key brands, including large multi-national companies.
  • Resolving issues arising in existing commercial relationships, and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries.
  • Anticipating and advising clients on compliance and regulatory issues and responding to contacts from regulators and external contacts.

The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enthusiastic about customers and technology, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. The candidate will need to operate with a strong degree of autonomy, initiative and decisiveness within their core areas of responsibility.

This is an exciting opportunity for those looking to take the next step in their career!

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

  • Experience managing multiple projects at once and competing timelines.
  • Ability to prioritise in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capable of leading complex and time sensitive projects while coordinating with internal stakeholders and external advisors.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated proficiency in leading contract negotiations with large multi-national companies and strong contract drafting skills.
  • Experience in advising on complex legal, regulatory and compliance matters including those arising under the Australian Consumer Law.
  • Ability to provide practical business judgment, think outside the box and assess practical risk.
