These large-scale, complex programs require exceptional people to help ensure the successful delivery of a significant, high-profile capital works program – each project ranging from $50m to over $1b.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Cost Estimator to join Sydney Water and deliver high-quality, accurate and timely cost estimation services for all projects in the Major Projects portfolio.
- Prepare project estimates ensuring they are in accordance with industry best practice but in strict adherence to SWC processes and procedures, to deliver major projects on time and within budget, from Project Initiation through to Close Out and Handover
- Support the Cost Control and Contracts teams in managing projects through delivery including undertaking site visits/inspections, working in a change control environment evaluating variation/compensation events.
- Accurately determine the total cost of materials, labour, and equipment required for large and complex construction projects.
- Develop Pricing Schedules for price build and contract documentation in line with Major Projects WBS structure.
- Obtain market price for the specialist contractors and supply of materials by preparing documents for tendering and bid purposes.
- Perform cost analyses on Contractor pricing submissions, determine the duration of a project, procure vendors and subcontractors, and ensure that resources are managed, and deadlines are met
- Participate in Risk Workshops for development of Inherent Risk profile to price build leading to Quantitative Risk Analysis determination of contingency position.
- Build and maintaining competitive pricing schedule databases, and ensuring that WHS, Community and environmental issues are integrated into the development of cost plans.
About you
You will have hands on experience in estimating large scale infrastructure projects valued at in excess of $50 million at a portfolio level. You will use your well-developed analytical skills to provide cost estimation support across the Major Projects portfolio. You have prior experience assisting in the preparation of cost estimates and plans. You pride yourself on your close attention to detail, ensuring precise and accurate costing support is provided in a professional and timely manner.
To be considered for this position it is essential that you have:
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as an estimator in the construction field
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative Schedule Risk Assessment
- RICS/AIQS Accreditation desirable
- Experience in the water industry or other highly regulated industry under strict HS&E codes would be beneficial.
- Experience using estimating and measuring software, e.g. Primavera Risk, @ Risk, Acumen Risk
Desirable
- Experience working within an NEC3 or NEC4 project framework
- Experience in delivering major projects and knowledge of INSW governance and gateways
- Power BI experience
