About Inland Rail
Inland Rail is a once-in-a-generation project that will complete the backbone of Australia's freight rail network. It will enhance supply chains by providing a transit time of 24 hours or less for freight trains between Melbourne and Brisbane. Inland Rail will connect regional Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland to markets more efficiently, drive substantial cost savings for producers and consumers, and deliver significant economic benefits. Inland Rail is the largest freight rail infrastructure project in Australia and one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the world.
About the opportunity
As the Cost Manager you are to produce and maintain Inland Rail Project cost reports, covering delivery of the project sections between Albury and Parkes Enhancement sites. The position includes managing baseline costs, supporting the development of trend and change management, forecasting and budgeting inputs to facilitate the Project team's objective within the overall Program and budget.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Update and maintain Prism G2 and the information stored within for accuracy and timeliness.
- Update of monthly actuals, accruals and provide monthly forecasts in Prism G2 in accordance with the subproject schedule and Project Controls reporting calendar.
- Monitor and analyse commitments and actuals in Prism G2 for accuracy of information.
- Participate in early project activities related to reviewing/implementing cost control processes and systems.
- Develop and submit monthly accruals schedule.
- Provide cost forecast for project management team.
- Work with Cost Estimating, Planning and Scheduling to ensure best application of integrated project controls and systems.
- Identify timescale opportunities/threats to the project and liaise with the appropriate members of the project team to achieve 'best for project' outcome.
- Any other cost management requirements, as directed by the Program Controls Lead.
To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Quantity Surveying or equivalent from an accredited university with a minimum of 7 years project controls associated experience.
- Ability and functional knowledge of electronic cost control tools, including spreadsheets; Microsoft Office and other relevant software programs.
- Experience in a large project-based finance system such as Oracle, SAP or Ci Financials.
- Technical competence in cost control, tracking and reporting.
- Ability to interpret cost and schedule data for forecasting purposes.
- High level of interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to interface, interact and work in and within the project team and external parties as required.
- Excellent skills in multi-tasking, prioritisation, and time management with the ability to manage numerous tasks at any one time in a demanding environment.
- Self-motivated, passionate, highly efficient, proactive, and professional with a respect for confidentiality
- Client-side experience, commercial acumen, and ability to manage sub-contractor schedules.
